2018 Resolutions

Another year is upon us! 2017 brought a few unexpected changes but has primed 2018 to be a great year.

  • Content Consumption
    • More books
      • Read for 30 minutes each weeknight before bed
      • Finish 15 books this year
      • Write a summary for each book I read (and blog it, of course)
    • Less social media
      • Restrict Twitter use during the workday
      • Restrict Twitter use
    • More long reads
      • Prefer to read articles rather than use Twitter
      • Keep a curated list of articles to read
  • Content Production
    • Relearn music production. It’s been awhile, but learning things again the right way will probably help improve my sound
    • DJ mix once a month
    • Potentially put out biweekly radio show?
    • Blog once a month!
  • Career
    • More side projects. I love building projects but haven’t felt impassioned by one in awhile

    • Continued learning
      • Complete Scala Coursera Specialization
      • Complete CS Fundamentals Specialization to brush up
    • Miscellaneous
      • I need to get more familiar with unix tools. manpag.es side project should help with that!
      • Learn vim. This has been on my TODO list for awhile
      • Continue improving my typing from peck typing to touch typing
    • 2 meetups a month
      • I used to go to a ton of meetups, but its fallen off recently. Need to change that!
  • Public Speaking
    • Complete the Toastmasters CC manual
    • Give a talk to my company about a project
    • Get comfortable with pitching
  • Body
    • Lose weight
      • More cardio!
      • Better eating!
    • Triathalon again
    • Drink more water!
      • Try to consciously drink a gallon a day!
    • Cook 2 new meals a month
      • Spend more on groceries than eating out. This is a good goal!
  • Financial
    • Maintain 33% savings rate
    • Max out Roth IRA
    • Invest in 401k
  • Miscellaneous
    • Are there places to volunteer in the area?
    • Use journal more to plan day
    • Plan months out in advance
