I’m a software engineer by trade living right outside Boston, MA. I work with small, growing companies splitting IC and management responsibilities, adopting to different company shapes and sizes along the way.
I’ve been paid to write Python, TypeScript, Ruby, and Scala, and have played around with Go, Haskell, and Elixir for fun. I like metaprogramming, pattern matching, and functional concepts. The more I build, the firmer my conviction in strong typing, composition, and well-defined interfaces.
My management philosophy is grounded in continuous improvement, a hands-on approach, & a bias toward thoughtful action inspired by books like The Goal, The Phoenix Project, and Leaders Eat Last. I’ve found that agency & ownership are the highest leading indicators of successful outcomes.
I enjoy reading, mostly non-fiction - business narratives and history. I dabble in chess and crosswords. Occassionally, I run somewhat long distances. I’m enthusiastic about personal finance education. My family and I try to be involved in our local community.
I love small businesses, both brick & mortar and software-based. I do a small bit of angel investing for fun.
